Madison Reading Project: Books That Give Back

FOUNDED: 2014

OUR MISSION: Madison Reading Project (MRP) connects our community with free books and literacy resources to ignite a love for reading that reflects and affirms the unique identities of young readers. The nonprofit’s core programs and services are designed for children ages birth to 18. We work with families, caregivers and educators who support children and youth in the greater Dane and Sauk Counties. We prioritize partners who work with historically marginalized communities, and/or families experiencing low income.

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES: Our literacy programs distribute over 130,000 new books annually to educators and children, made possible by over 240 partnerships with schools, social service agencies, neighborhood centers, community events and other local organizations in Dane and Sauk Counties.

WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT US:

  • A monetary gift in any amount helps us provide free books and literacy enrichment opportunities for thousands of children and educators.
  • When you buy books on our bookshop.org page, you support independent bookstores and MRP receives a cut of each book sold.
  • Volunteer at our book center, deliver Little Free Library books, provide event and fundraising support, or help lead one of our literacy programs.
  • Attend our annual The Read(y) to Wear event, a fun paper fashion show that raises money for MRP.

“By providing free, culturally diverse books, literacy resources and community-informed programs across Dane and Sauk counties, we spark a passion for reading that reflects and affirms every child in our community.”
