The Face Behind the Feed

Jessica Le founded Blooming Esthetics, her Sun Prairie-based skincare studio, in 2021. The owner and licensed esthetician started her business as a side gig and turned it into a full-time job after the company she was working for closed.

“I had two options: Get another job or take a chance on myself and go all in on my business. I chose to bet on myself,” says Le.

With an Instagram following of 47,700 followers at @days.with.jess (she also runs the @bloomingesthetics.wi account, too), we asked Le about her business journey.

What’s your secret to building a social media following?

I started posting on Instagram almost every day to promote my business. Over time, I taught myself the editing skills that I know and still use today. Besides facial videos, I post esthetician satire, skincare education, local business recommendations and parts of my personal life. Being consistent, learning editing techniques, interacting with others on social media and showing who I am beyond my business has helped me grow an audience.

You also host workshops that help estheticians create social media content.

I recently launched my “1:1 Facial Content Creation Workshop” for estheticians. Social media is such a powerful marketing tool, and I want to help other estheticians learn how to capture their work and edit their own content with confidence.

The workshop is an in-person session where I come to [a client’s] business. I show them how to film content using a live facial model and then we sit down and edit a few videos together. By the end of the workshop, they’ll feel confident filming and editing facial videos on their own.

What types of posts perform the best for you?

Satire videos (usually about being an esthetician or small business owner) and facial ASMR videos.

What post ended up doing really well that you didn’t expect?

A nine-second video of me pranking one of my regular clients. I asked her if she minded if I recorded something. She was probably expecting me to be recording her facial, but instead, I looked right into the camera, smiled and said, “five tips for dealing with annoying clients.” We both busted out laughing!
