When styling a mantel aim for balance, but not necessarily perfect symmetry. You don’t need matching items on each side, but also don’t want one side too heavy or too light, advises Katie Myhre-Daeger, home stylist of Gladeye Design Studio. Step back and evaluate, then keep moving things around until you achieve a harmonious look.
Include a variety of colors, sizes, shapes and textures. Colors should repeat two to three times. Greenery can be refreshed with the seasons.
“Books are a great way to add interest and help with balance on your mantel,” says Myhre-Daeger. “Just remove the jacket/book cover to give new books an old feel.”
