A Space That Sings

When a local couple approached Autumn Cartee, residential project designer at Architectural Building Arts, to reimagine their main bathroom, they already had a few ideas in mind. “They were after something a little more modern, [wanted] some color … and they also wanted to have a bit of a midcentury modern feel,” says Cartee.

The down-to-the studs renovation took a few months, which included adding a private water closet, rearranging a few elements in the space and nailing the gorgeous design.

“The client was very complimentary with the attention to detail and were happy with the way it turned out,” says Cartee.

THE DETAILS

  1. The freestanding vanity and sculptural sconces are from Rejuvenation. “We wanted the vanity to look like a furniture piece,” explains Cartee. The warm wood tone marries well with the room’s show stopping green tile — as well as with the rest of the furniture in the client’s home.
  2. Ragno’s Look Oliva glossy emerald tile is used on the accent wall and wraps into the shower — and provides just the glow-up the bathroom needed. Robern’s Oliver medicine cabinet looks like a mirror — but is cleverly inset into the wall and has lighting and outlets on the inside.
  3. The shower stayed in the same spot — but was vastly improved with the removal of a half-wall, adding in floor-to-ceiling glass walls and rearranging the plumbing fixtures, says Cartee. Brizo’s Brilliance fixtures in luxe gold are used throughout the bathroom.
  4. In the new water closet, Hackney & Company’s Herbarium wallpaper livens up the space and Sherwin- Williams’ Rookwood Dark Green coats the ceiling in luxurious color. “The client wanted it to be kind of fun when you went in there and not just painted walls,” notes Cartee. The marble hexagon floor tile is from Madison’s Molony Tile.
