Women to Watch: Jillian Falligant

By Candice Wagener

AS A LEGAL SECRETARY in the Public Defender’s Office, Jillian Falligant wondered about the victims. “Everybody else in the case has left and is done but this person is still experiencing this trauma,” says Falligant. Now, as legal program coordinator at Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS), she helps those victims, sitting by their side in the courtroom if necessary, and she is building relationships with officials involved in the cases, including law enforcement, attorneys and judges.

“Domestic violence is a really significant issue in our community. We need to come together and address this issue as a team,” says Falligant.

Her biggest dream is to increase pro bono resources, especially for family law cases. She is also in the process of establishing a presence for DAIS at the Dane County Courthouse so victims can immediately have an advocate. “We want to make sure they know who we are and what we provide, not find out about us after it’s all said and done,” says Falligant.
