Waitress the Musical

Brought to the stage by an all-female creative team, the hit Broadway musical “Waitress” begins its first run in Madison July 24-29. Based on Adrienne Shelly’s film, the production features original music and lyrics by Grammy® nominee Sara Bareilles while portraying the quirky path of self-discovery a small town waitress stumbles upon via a baking contest, an extramarital affair and her coworkers’ own recipes for happiness.

Actress and cast member Lenne Klingaman thinks the storyline is one most audiences can relate to due to the strong themes of human connection presented on stage depicting poignant, and often humorous, moments amongst friends and lovers. “This production has been a beautiful thing to watch and be a part of. I think almost every women can see themselves in the main character Jenna, the role I play (Dawn) or one of the other waitresses,” she reveals. “You’re gonna know these people and by the end, be cheering for them—and yourself—to come out of your shell and love fiercely.” overture.org.
