Madison Shakespeare Company returns to the Wonderground at Madison Children’s Museum to stage four performances of Christopher Marlowe’s tragedy, Dido, Queen of Carthage, directed by Cassie Hankins and Jason Compton.
This gripping tale is marked by thwarted romance, the ravages of war, and divine manipulation in the affairs of mankind. Unbeknownst to Queen Dido (Madeleine O’Keefe), her heart is no longer her own. It is merely one front in an ongoing war between the gods Juno, Jupiter, and Venus. Trojan survivors led by Aeneas (Ben Seidensticker) wash onto Carthage shores, and Venus will sacrifice anything—including Dido’s free will—to keep her son safe.
