BRAVA Magazine hosts editorial internships year-round for enthusiastic, driven and creative college students and recent graduates. Our interns thrive as part of our small, close-knit team of women, learning many aspects of the magazine business from the inside out.
Along with that valuable experience, they come away with an impressive portfolio of their published work, both in print and online. Our interns have gone on to writing or marketing positions at other publications, businesses or organizations. Several of our interns have gone on to freelance write for BRAVA after their internship.
Internships typically run for the duration of a single school term, but on occasion, some of our interns have extended their stay to multiple semesters. These internships are unpaid.

EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP
HOURS: 10-15 hours/week
DURATION: We host interns year-round — usually a school term or over summer break.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants should have a willingness to learn and the ability to write excellent, short-form articles in a news and feature style.
- Coursework in journalism, communications, marketing, or English are required.
- Some knowledge of copy-editing and AP style is helpful.
- Interns will need a laptop.
- Having transportation and the ability to travel to our Verona office and assignment locations is helpful, but not required at this time.
This internship is currently remote, with one in-person meeting for training/orientation, and opportunities to meet up in person throughout the internship duration as needed.
DUTIES: Editorial interns get hands-on experience in interviewing, writing for the website and print magazine, fact-checking, story research and copyediting. Interns are also often invited to photo shoots and editorial meetings, so they can get a robust understanding of how magazine newsrooms operate.

DESIGN INTERNSHIP
HOURS: 12-15 hours/week
DURATION: Usually a school term, or over summer break
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be self-motivated, efficient, flexible and willing to assist in quick turnaround projects.
- Must have design knowledge of Adobe CC.
- Preferred candidates will be in the fourth year of a design program or be a recent grad.
- Should have social media, illustration and photography skills.
- Need own computer and transportation to our Verona offices.
DUTIES: Design ads for print and web; update weekly web graphics, department maintenance, file organization and preparation. Assists Art Director as needed in a variety of areas.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP
HOURS: 8-12 hours/week
DURATION: Usually a school term, or over summer break
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ideally pursuing a BA or AA in Communications, Journalism, or similar program.
- Strong photography/videography skills (portfolio/sample is required)
- Knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and social planning tools such as Planoly
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Willingness to travel around the Madison area to attend local events
DUTIES: The social media intern will work with our social media manager on curating and posting content pertinent to BRAVA Magazine’s mission and target demographics in the Madison, WI area. Our ideal candidate has experience working professionally on a variety of social media platforms (Facebook,
Instagram, LinkedIn), is personable, and lives in or near the Madison area. Weekly meetings/check-ins will be required, but work schedule is flexible.
