SUMMARY:Brahms and Friends
DESCRIPTION:With special guests: DeForest High School Bella Voce and Camerata \nJoin the Wisconsin Chamber Choir for an uplifting concert celebrating the music of Johannes Brahms and related figures. As one of the Romantic era’s most open-minded\, cosmopolitan musicians\, Brahms was influenced by a wide range of music from outside his own national background. Taking our cues from Brahms’s inclusive approach\, the WCC’s program highlights a wide variety of composers from the Renaissance to the present day\, encompassing Brahms’s actual friends Clara and Robert Schumann\, along with later Brahms fans from Russian\, Afro-British\, Latin American\, and US traditions. \nFavorite Brahms works on offer include the stirring motet\, Warum ist das Licht gegeben (Wherefore is Light Given)\, the immortal piano quartet\, Der Abend (The Evening)\, and the beloved part song\, In stiller Nacht (In Dead of Night). Besides music by both Schumanns\, other Romantic-era composers on the program include Sergei Taneyev\, known as “the Russian Brahms\,” and the Afro-British prodigy\, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor\, who was inspired to incorporate African melodies in his music by Brahms’s uses of Hungarian music. Brahms-inspired works from our own time include lush music by Jean Belmont Ford and Nico Gutierrez\, plus stirring renditions of pieces by Frank Ticheli and Eurydice V. Osterman performed by the choirs of DeForest High School under the direction of Lyrica Daentl. Pianist Mark Wurzelbacher enriches the program with his sensitive artistry. \nTickets are $25 for adults / $5 for students\, available in advance from www.wisconsinchamberchoir.org or at the door. Discounted tickets are available for children\, students\, and patrons experiencing financial hardship. \nFounded in 1998\, the Wisconsin Chamber Choir has established a reputation for excellence in the performance of oratorios by Bach\, Handel\, Mozart\, and Brahms; a cappella works from various centuries; and world premieres. WCC Artistic Director Robert Gehrenbeck\, a Professor of Music at UW-Whitewater\, has been hailed by critics for his vibrant and emotionally compelling interpretations of a wide variety of choral music. Under his leadership the WCC has presented major works with orchestra as well as innovative programs of rarely heard music by composers from a wide variety of eras\, nationalities\, and cultures.

SUMMARY:D.E.L.V.E. Incubator Performance 2025
DESCRIPTION:IDC’s DELVE Incubator provides an opportunity for dancers and choreographers to create and explore artistically\, while making new connections and performing for local audiences. Professional and advanced amateur dancers will work in the creation of new works that will be included in IDC’s May 2025 performances with this year’s panel selected choreographers: Natalia Armacanqui\, Edward Salas\, Liz Sexe\, José Cruz-Arzón\, Erica Pinigis\, and Krysten Hagedorn. In true IDC form\, these works highlight the incredible and often unseen diversity of contemporary dance in Madison -. It’s Global Contemporary – an expression of our current moment from the perspectives of Madison’s rich diversity in dance. \nLiz Sexe\, in her endlessly creative experimental fashion\, is crafting a contemporary improvisational dance party that’s just as fun as it is technically exacting. \nJosé Cruz-Arzón’s incredible 21 dancer cast has street dance bumping up against jazz funk to highlight and contrast masculine and feminine movement. \nUtilizing her expertise in mesmerizing programmable LED props\, Krysten Hagedorn is weaving together circus flow arts with tutting and contemporary jazz/funk in a dazzling juxtaposition of the light and darkness inside each of us. \nNatalia Armacanqui’s global dance fusion expertise brings out the divine feminine in each of the dancers through both ancestral and contemporary forms and her distinctly unique and innovative vision. \nIn a collaborative process with Poet Andrea Musher as well as the aerialists in the cast\, Erica Pinigis is bringing back to life Musher’s “If It Weren’t For Her Stays\, a work of choral poetry that uses corsets as metaphor for the complex and often paradoxical ways that patriarchy is enacted on women’s bodies. Pinigis draws from a lifelong passion for the work of the mothers and grandmothers of American Modern Dance\, like Loie Fuller and Isadora Duncan in a piece of bound flow\, aerial dance\, and dozens of yards of fabric. \nIn a bold step outside of his comfort zone\, Edward Salas is exploring martial arts and house music influences in his premiere\, also utilizing play in his constantly evolving rehearsal process.

SUMMARY:Nature Passport Season
DESCRIPTION:It’s officially Nature Passport season! \nMadison\, WI – This year\, Nature Net is revamping its renowned Nature Passport to make the most of your summer outdoor adventures! Whether you’re discovering hidden gems or completing simple missions\, the updated Nature Passport ensures that you make the most of all that these incredible locations have to offer! Nature Net is also a proud supporter of the Nature Everywhere Initiative—so whether you’re visiting a Nature Net site or exploring your local park\, be sure to get outside and connect with the nature around you! \nThe Nature Passport is a free and self-guided activity journal inviting children and their families to visit the various Nature Net sites and spend time engaging with the natural world. Each site has a list of activities for kids to complete along with further information about the location. Families may work to complete as many of the nature missions as they can\, or they may simply use their Passport as inspiration for their own adventures. Offered in both English and Spanish\, Nature Passports are available at Nature Net sites and local libraries from now to the end of summer. Each site has something truly unique to explore\, so what are you waiting for? Get out there and explore! \nWith a mix of indoor attractions like the Madison Children’s Museum and Cave of the Mounds\, and stunning outdoor spots such as Cherokee Marsh and the UW–Madison Arboretum\, there’s always somewhere to explore no matter the weather! Nature Net Director\, Betsy Parker\, notes that\, “the Nature Passport has always been one of my favorite programs we offer. It can be hard for families to stay creative with activities throughout the summer\, so I love that we can provide a pocket-sized tool that inspires adventure and connects people with our local natural and cultural resources.” \nNature Net is a program of the Aldo Leopold Nature Center and works to get families and educators outdoors. This year’s Nature Passport is offered as a free resource thanks to support from Wild Birds Unlimited and printing via Images Plus. Additionally\, the UW-Madison Latin American\, Caribbean\, and Iberian Studies Program (LACIS) assisted in creating the Spanish language version of the Passport. If you would like to get more involved and keep the Nature Passport going for the next generation of environmental stewards\, donations are accepted at naturenet.org.
