DESCRIPTION:Open Doors for Refugees will hold its annual Community Potluck Picnic on Sunday\, June 21\, 2026\, at Elver Park from 12 to 3 p.m. \nThis event is free and open to the public. It has family-friendly activities\, live music\, and a potluck luncheon with food from around the world. A celebration of neighborliness\, the picnic provides a unique opportunity to connect with refugee families who are making their home in Madison and to reaffirm America’s long tradition of welcoming immigrants. \nChildren of all ages will enjoy games and activities run by the Madison Children’s Museum and MSCR’s Clay on the Move. \nLive music will include traditional Colombian music by Cumbia Cachaca\, the dulcimer/ percussive artist Gloria Hays\, and the deep blues of Tani Diakite and the Afrofunkstars. Toe-tapping likely. Dancing encouraged! \nOpen Doors for Refugees is a volunteer organization formed in 2016 after Syrian refugees began arriving in Madison. Our mission is to help refugees make a home here. \nLast year’s picnic drew 250-plus people despite the heat. This year we are planning for a bigger crowd yet! \nIn the current political environment\, it is more important than ever to show support for our immigrant neighbors. Please help this effort by letting people know about this free community event.

DESCRIPTION:Willie Jones from Madison-based grass band\, Sortin’ The Mail\, will be hosting a monthly bluegrass jam at our taproom!\nThis jam will be a little different than your standard. While we will never tell a musician how to do their job\, our only request was “fun\, uptempo\, and different”. While we love standards and traditional old-timey\, we want our jam sessions to be a little more of a broad array of styles.\nEach jam will start with a set of tunes from Willie (and possibly some special guests!) followed by an open jam for anyone who has a tune they wanna share or is just looking to rock out. So come join us for a great afternoon of pickin’ and grinnin’!

They will bring you well known songs such as The Entertainer\, Alexander’s Ragtime Band\, and St. Louis Blues as well as some rarely heard but great old time music. \nThe St. Louis duo has toured music of the ragtime era throughout the region\, appearing at libraries\, museums\, pubs and restaurants\, special events\, and more.
