Play Around Town

Big treasures are tucked away in Paoli
Paoli may be small enough to get by without a gas station, but that may be the only thing this tiny town is missing. Every inch of the two-block downtown, featuring award-winning galleries, delicious food, historic architecture and unique shops along the picturesque Sugar River, is without-a-doubt worth stopping for. Shop: Art-lovers will delight in the unique selection. First, pick up whimsical utensils, glassware and other artfully adorned accessories at Totally Wired. For a more traditional look at art, head to Artisan Gallery, which showcases works from 150 artists. Round out your jaunt with a stop at the Paoli House Gallery—a renovated turn-of-the-century hotel—to see dozens of great pieces lining the walls. And for the artsy and non-artsy alike, find everything from handmade soap to stylish clothing and housewares at the Paoli Schoolhouse Shops. Dine: Bikers on the Paoli loop rave about the Creamery Café’s delectable lunch offerings, and the Paoli Schoolhouse Café (just across the street) serves up delightful fare as well. If classic comfort food is more your speed, the Paoli Pub & Grill—known for its delicious burgers—and Paoli Cheese have you covered. Do: In addition to being a popular stop for area cyclists, evenings in Paoli are pleasant and playful, especially on the eve of July 17, which marks Evening on the Sugar River. The annual event features live music, restaurant specials and a spectacular view of the sun setting over Sugar River. It’s the perfect end to a day in a small town with a big heart.
